The countdown is on to The Scottish International Open, which takes place from 2nd to 9th November 2019 in Perth.
The World’s Professional Indoor Bowls top 16 players line up against 16 worldwide qualifiers in a week-long event and it is an important competition as it is the first ranking event of the season.
The draw has just been announced and world number 1 and defending champion Stewart Anderson has a tough first round match as he takes on Ross Tomlinson from Port Talbot. In 2018 Stewart played flawless bowls in the final to defeat Paul Foster and take the Scottish International Open title for the first time, a title he will be aiming to retain in 2019. Stewart had a great start to 2019 when he won the Just 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championships.
Another match we won’t want to miss is world number 16 Simon Skelton versus world number 19 Andy Thomson MBE. Simon reached the final of the Just 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championships in January after playing incredible bowls throughout the tournament and of course just missed out on claiming victory as Stewart Anderson won the trophy. Andy is a popular player and is well respected by all the players.
Of course, our very own Greg Harlow and Mark Royal are also taking part in the competition. Greg will be taking on Alexander Elwell from Australia, while Mark has drawn Dan LeMessurier from the USA.
We can’t wait to watch the action unfold and all games can be viewed on World Bowls Tour’s YouTube channel, and live on BBC2 Scotland from 4th November 2019.
Here is the draw for the first round…
- Stewart Anderson vs Ross Tomlinson
- Mark Dawes vs Stuart Bennett
- Mark Royal vs Dan LeMessurier (USA)
- Les Gillet vs Poole Qualifier
- Nicky Brett vs Hailey Packer (Australia)
- Michael Stepney vs Josh Cameron (Canada)

- Darren Burnett vs Hong Kong

Of course, the Just 2020 World Indoor Bowls Championships is also just around the corner – indoor bowls biggest tournament. Potters Resort will once again be hosting the Championships as players compete for victory between Friday 10th and Sunday 26th January 2020.
The blue carpet will be rolled out in the International Arena as bowls royalty steps up to the mat in five categories - the World Pairs Championship, Mixed Pairs Championship, World Under 25s Championship, Ladies Matchplay and the Open Singles Championship.
