Meet senior bowls assistant, Alison McIntosh

Posted on

If you have tried out a new set of bowls while you are on Resort, then you have very likely met Alison. Alison is our senior bowls assistant for Potters Bowls Shop and we caught up with her to find out more about her role…

Can you tell us a little about what you do at Potters?

I started with Potters Bowls Shop in January 2019 and I look after the online shop, answer calls, reply to emails, look after the stock and in the shop on Resort, manage the email newsletter and deal with any questions.

Have you played bowls?

I have had some lessons and tips from Greg Harlow, and had some coaching from Andy Thompson too, so feel very lucky. I also joined the team in taking part in the Hopton Bowls Club centenary match. It is great fun and definitely something I can see myself taking up in a couple of years.

What was it like experiencing your first World Indoor Bowls Championships earlier this year?

It has such a good atmosphere and really is the best bowls tournament in the world. There is such a buzz around Resort and in the International Arena and I am looking forward to the 2020 event. Our office overlooks the main arena, although we will once again have our ‘pop up’ shop during the Championships, so will be busy selling and advising on bowls and a range of clothing and equipment.

Who is your favourite bowls player?

I would have to say Greg Harlow, of course! He is just really lovely too and for many bowls players he is a celebrity. They all love seeing him on the Midweek breaks.

And you have worked with Potters Resort for many years now. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

I have worked with Potters for around 17 years and first started off doing demonstrations on flowers and putting all the Christmas trees up around Resort, which I still do. Between Zest and the main Resort, there’s around 30 trees. I have also worked on reception too.

And you used to holiday at Potters when you were younger?

Yes, my parents and grandparents used to holiday here and it is where I met my husband, Ian. My daughter and son also work here too, so Potters really is very special to us. My father-in-law works in the kitchen too.
